However, in engroup 1.5.5, we will use only database authentication since most of our clients want simple :), when we can define the complex role with database but not LDAP (not authentication but authorization too), and we have not see the easy way to do yet. But my team has the code of working with LDAP, and you can use spring integration (or any ESB) to synchronize users/roles between database and LDAP.
