I have chance to interview many candidates join to my company from developers, QC (quality control), BA (business analyst) and PM (Project manager). It makes me happy to have interviews with talent ones and in fact, I have received many praises from my colleagues and even interviewees. Almost interviewees feel surprise from my questions but they think that they are good for them to show their compatibilities. Let's revise the interviewee expect in the interviewMore...

1. Their work history and experience, some makes more detail in experience level as good, excellent and expert.
2. Their interest on company.
3. Their characteristic: enthusiasm, responsibility, friendly, dynamic, ...
4. The benefits when company recruits them.
5. Their skills both technical and communication as comprehension, presentation, problem solving, ...

It is very nice if I accept one interviewee if they show me all above items well, but I should add more in the following list:

6. Logical thinking and creative (not only base on experience).
7. Attitude and characteristics is suitable to existing members in my projects.
8. A good man :-)

but in many times, interviewed and me do not have the same respect on above items and make they can not pass my interview sessions. Let's go in detail:

1. Work history and experience:
Many people think it is a critical part in their CV, according to me it is useless. Let me see:

Interviewee: I have 5 years experience on .NET development in large project includes more than 30 members, I have designed the architect of program and it works well today and client praised me many times.

Hai: it sounds great, why do you think your design is good ?

Interviewee [surprise]: due to it runs well now and customer praise the design.
Hai: !!!. [in fact, the program run well not means the good design. In this case, this guy has no method to evaluate the quality of design and depends on evaluate in practice and customer] ...

Hai: What technology you have used in .NET
Interviewee: ADO.NET in almost cases.
...

In almost cases, interviewees show their experience through using API library, not the lesson learn from their projects, how to make the project better if they have a chance to work in the same project. Images in above case, what is the difference among 5 years and 3 months practicing on ADO.NET. May be it is the same of fluency API, why the difference between 5 years and 3 months, I see it is the same.

Hai: I see in your CV, you have said that you are an expert on Java. What makes you think you are the expert?
Interviewee [hesitate]: I can solve all problems assigned to me

Hai: !!! [The candidate does not have any method to evaluate himself and seems to be thinking very high about him image.]

2. Interviewee's interest on company: It is very good when interviewee shows his interest on company but some times, I recognize them lay me when I ask them. Many persons do not care the company they are working but salary and it is the fact, no problem for them and I will accept them if they show what they can contribute to company but I hate lie, interviewee should not lie in all cases while interview especially with me :-)

3. Logical thinking and creative (not only base on experience)
Not much candidate having a strong logical thinking, they answer only base on their experience, some is better but only base on articles they read. Some candidates show me a theorizer by reading books not a practical, in fact I am strictly on this criteria but I always reduce my criteria on this item.

4. Attitude and characteristic is suitable to existing members in my projects.
In fact, some good members are accepted to the next interviews but I do not accept them in my project due to the difference among their characteristics and my members. When building a team, I must care the cultural in team and make members feel they are members in family, not special one can make the extreme conflicts in team. If it happens, they should leave to other team.

5. A good man
What happen if in project, you always deal with unhonest man, what he impacts to other thinking and the health of project. All I need a candidate become my member is satisfy the job requirements and be a good man.
